There are many factors on which search engines weighs your websites before they start trusting it. If you read this article from a search engine’s point of view, you will understand how each factor is so important for the search engines that if these are ignored then search engines will be flooded with spam sites. Let’s see how many of these points are good with your blog.
- About us page – If you are serious about your blog then you might already have a about us page that explains enough about yourself and your blog. This page helps in branding and building natural links as well. Imagine some media guy lands on your blog and finds it interesting, you might actually get featured on Tv. or newspaper. Next, the media guys tries to find more about you and does not finds an about us page explaining more about yourself. What a turn off!
Anyways, from the search engine point of view, this page helps. The search engines wants genuine sites to rank high in serps and send traffic to them, and a site which does not have an about us page surely do not count much genuine.
- Domain expiration date – how serious are you about your blog? Certainly if you have a domain registered for another 10 years, atleast we know that it won’t get dropped very soon. The domain expiration date is a good enough factor for the search engines to know how much you care about your blog and how serious you are about it.
- Linking to good sites – Yes, outgoing links helps in seo too if it goes to good authority websites. So, link to sites which are authority in your niche and make the link dofollow.
- Having unique and updated content – Remember, content is king, one of the top slogans of the seo world and for good reasons, it is absolutely true. An updated blog is given a lot of value by search engines and the frequency of updating it matters too. So if you can consistently post more than one posts a day, it will surely help.
- Privacy policy, disclaimer and contact us – Privacy policy page is a must have as per the adsense tos, so you can understand the importance of it. Disclaimer is for your own good, it will help you if you run into legal trouble. Contact us page, like about us page, is very important.
- Copyright and trademark – If you can manage a copyright or a trademark it will help you. Getting a trademark is not a big issue; however setting up a company for your blog might be a hard work. You must have noticed how Google and other search engines is pushing the value of brands in search results. You can take the benefit of it if your blog is a registered company.
- Incoming links from good sites – Cannot stress this point more, you know how much good links are valued. Just use your creativity to get some good links and see the difference in your blog.
- Avoiding bad neighbors – This is absolutely under your control, just stay away from bad sites, the adult/casino stuff, both incoming and outgoing links from these are bad. But it’s really bad if you link to them, so be careful.
- Good web hosting – am sure search engine as well as your visitors will hate a slow loading or non responding website. Some hosting companies surely have this problem because they provide limited CPU usage. So, even if you got loads of bandwidth and space, your website will still deliver 500 internal errors. In this case move to a better web host or perhaps consider getting a server for your blog.
- Activity – The number of comments a blog gets, the amount of feed subscribers etc. all counts as blog activity which helps in building search engine authority. I could not get the reference where I had read this, when I will get it, will add the link here.

hi jonathan,
welcome to tech nascent and thanks for your comments,
i won’t call it secrets, its still quite basic, however you are right, most blogs really do not have a good about us page which is really very sad,
I agree that one should be careful not to link to bad neighborhood sites, but I don’t know that I would purchase a domain name for 10 years that’s a bit excessive don’t you think?
.-= Ms. Freeman´s last blog ..Ode to Akismet =-.
surely its a bit excessive, but am certain it helps. search engines will be atleast certain that your domain will not drop soon if its registered for a long duration of time
but why 10 so specifically, just renew it for more than a few years…
The truth is that these tips go beyond pleasing the search engines, they are all necessary to show people that you’re serious about what you do and are doing it in the most professional way.

Good tips bro., but my seo listing is not that good. do you think its because of the theme i use( i use CognoBlue wordpress theme)
.-= Ramkumar´s last blog ..Incredimail Vs Outlook =-.
theme alone can not be responsible for that, i see that you have a pretty new blog, 3 – 4 months is still new for a blog to do good in search engines. Just keep working and in time you will get more traffic from search engines.

have you tried the akisment and bad-behavior plugins, they are stopping a lot of comments spam. i think the pop up ad that you have, perhaps that could be a reason too, google doesnot really like the popups…
Oh boy. I have a long way to go. I need a lot patience and perseverance to earn this search engines trust. But I won’t give up.
#Sunil Jain : My PR has dropped too

.-= Pubudu Kodikara´s last blog ..The Great Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.0 is Finally Ready =-.
yep, search engine trust is the basic step in seo, a must do for all blogs
Ok if some one has link our blog in so many bad neighbors blogs, then what to do.
well, Google knows who is doing what and from where and when… everything, good or bad is tracked and analyzed by Google, however, negative seo does happens, and if someone wants your blog dead, he/she can see to it…
The one I don’t understand is the privacy policy page. Is that for comments left by visitors? Do people leave comments and not realize it is viewable by anyone online? Or is it something else?
Another thing I’ve noticed is overkill on advertising. Some blogs have useful information but it gives me a headache to try to find it because most of what I see is ads. I don’t have ads on my blog. Maybe I could make a few dollars per month if I did but I wouldn’t want my distracted readers heading off to someone else’s site. It’s not worth it.
.-= Steve Orris´s last blog ..Prosper Today =-.
hi Steve Orris,
welcome to tech nascent and thanks for your comments,
Privacy Policy is a must have for all websites and blogs, yes it can be for commentators, how his comments is going to be used or published/edited, how his email id is going to be used, his personal details posted on the site will be sold/distributed/stored? how he will be contacted and why? then some blogs has registration options, also visitor details recorded by stat and ads programs are used somehow… personally there’s a lot to be added on my privacy policy that am working on at the moment,
I agree with you on the ads part, as you can see there is no ads on tech nascent, and you are right, its not worth it to send valuable visitors and readers to other sites for a few cents…
Your suggestions are welcome and make some sense.
Bad neighbors is a technique that could be the cause of website’s depression. Often SEO’s use these tactics against their rivals. Pristine link formaton is the key stone of better serps and Google Trust.
Nice description -It is really helpful . Add more stuff like this. People will be helpful a lot from posts like this .Thanks a lot
thanks
allot for the ways and i use it
Know all the points except linking to good sites. Well that’s strange, I wonder how far it helps in gaining trust from search engines?
after the google panda update now the freshness of the content is also the important factor to get Search Engine Trust
