yep, there is no alternative for quality paid softwares like norton, and yes, do remind your IT group to skip vista for good, its way to troublesome… compatibility issues, driver mismatch, crashes… windows7 sounds lot more stable and compatible, am planning to buy it in a months time,

about the registry issues, you can try the ccleaner as suggested above from almost everyone, there’s a lot of registry cleaners and almost all works good.

However, i would suggest to leave the Internet explorer and try mozila firefox, it is the best browser you will ever find. try it once and you won’t fall back to any version of internet explorer ever,

This is my first visit to your blog and I find it very enjoyable. I will be sticking with Windows XP, mainly because of my day job. Our IT group never updates the browsers or operating systems until the next version comes out (although in this case I think they are going to skip Vista, LOL).

I do think I am the victim of some registry problems. When I upgraded from IE6 to IE8 I was told, that some of the registry files did not over write the old ones from IE6. I’m not sure how to go about fixing that issue.

At home I am using Norton 360 because there was some virus that ad-aware could not repair (sometime when you use free tools you get what you pay for). The Norton 360 has done a fine job and I always recommend it.
