Reasons Why Alexa Rank is Important

Alexa ranks are good for fun, but we cannot ignore their importance. You must have heard or read that how alexa is misleading, am sure some of it must be correct but don’t be fooled by what you read, its time that you make your own idea about alexa ranks and hope this article will help you understand alexa better.
Alexa 100k challenge, why is it important for you to get into the top 100k Alexa rank –
1) Alexa starts showing ranking graph when you get into the top 100k sites.
2) Feels good.
3) In the top 100k only 100k sites are there. So it’s quite an achievement.
4) Alexa sells top 25k, 100k etc. site lists. Now they are also giving away these lists for free download. Various companies go through these lists, generate business opportunities and buys advertising. If your site is in these lists, then it may create additional revenue streams for you. Further more, this can also bring in opportunities of being featured in the Tv. or newspaper media.
5) If you have a site with less than 100k Alexa rank then people will buy more advertising on your website.
6) A blog with good Alexa rank gets more subscribers and comments, as most people do consider sites with less Alexa ranks to be high trafficked.
7) A forum with good Alexa ranks get more members, and the members also post more as they expect a referral traffic coming through their sig links.
Some advertising networks also give importance to Alexa ranks. Also some offers are reserved only for good Alexa ranking websites.
9) Lack of other metrics for calculating a website’s traffic by external means is also a reason why Alexa rank is used.
10) It’s popular and don’t forget that its a Amazon.com company.
Alexa changed its algo sometimes back, which changed various website’s ranks. Here are a few good things from that change.
1) Install Alexa toolbar and view your sites many times do not influence your ranks much as it used to do. Currently alexa does not disclose its other ways by which it is calculating its stats.
2) All those sites that say manipulating Alexa ranks is easy have their own ranks in millions!
3) Auto Script etc. for manipulating Alexa ranks dose not works.
Whether you like alexa ranks or hate it, find it useful or misleading, you just can’t ignore it.

My blog alexa rank is already below 100k but i do not have any affect from it yet such as advertising request.

100k is quite basic stuff, i mainly mentioned 100k due to the graph, i think unless it gets further down may be in 25k, i don’t think the effects will be much…
I always care Alexa and PR
its good to value external metrics and stats, they might not be that accurate, but it’s still a means to know how your blog is doing compared to others,
Alexa rank attracts advertisers and people who need reviews from your blog. Recently I got a request to write a review on my blog only because my blog had a top100k alexa. Also, people do this for high PR sites..

I have yet to see the importance of Alexa. It doesn’t stop me from making money online. Linkbuilding will always be more important than worrying about silly numbers.

surely there are more important blogging things, like adding content, building links, networking with other bloggers, commenting and the list will do on, and once you do it all, i believe that your alexa rank will improve automatically without you having to worry about silly numbers…
Alexa rank is like a necessary evil. Irrespective of whether you love it or hate it, you are gonna NEED it because – your advertisers love it and your readers love it too. Unfortunately for you, you can not manage without either of them!

It took me 15 months to get my Alexa below 50k and my PR to 2. Do you know if the free list of all Alexa sites is published yet somewhere, I would love to see the list (I know they have top 10 and such, but would be good to scan the top 20k or 10k.
I also noticed that adding an Alexa badge improved my rating faster, I have no logical explanation but it just did.

It sure feels good
but i would say that the 4th point is really important. Big companies, both off line and online, goes through those stats and if you are into alexa 25k list, it will help 
It’s true that it is easier to pitch for a private advertising because people know from Alexa Rank that your site is quite popular in terms of traffic

Yup alexa rank do matter. Even if it is not the accurate measure to check traffic stats but it still helps in finding advertisers.

I would like to say that it is hype among bloggers only. No one cares about how much alexa rank you have. It all depends on the content your blog has and finally that content shows in google SERP. Hope i could help you out something

vivek, its a hype that interests advertisers more than bloggers, and i would like you to read the full article, let me know your throughts about my point number 4, i know the big companies goes through the 10k or the 25k top alexa lists, you got no idea how much business opportunity you might be missing out if you are not on those lists…

You make some good points, I will focus more on alexa. The problem is that with them links are not good enough the links have to be from multiple site. So you can’t just join a forum and post links, you have to join a hundred or get people to post links for you. Well, thnk you for the article.

Yep, alexa rank can be used for selling a site as well, good stats = more sales value of your website
In absense of any standard yard-stick, any one going for online ads will rely heavily on Alexa & Google PR. So, you love it or hate it…its there to stay

Alexa rank shows u the stats of your traffic and position in google or other search engines….i have tested alexa alot of times and it works for me:)
I find those stating that alexa is not important a bit outside what’s truly happening.
Alexa is a good measurement of how successful a blog or website really is. Good alexa rank means better advertising deals and revenue.
